Today’s Greatitude
Today would have been my grandfather’s 116th birthday. He was born in 1908 in Rocky Mountain House and later became a pharmacist graduating from the University of Alberta in 1932 and celebrating over 50 years of service excellence.
He was alive during both World Wars, the start and end of the Cold War, and saw a new millennium dawn before he passed away in 2000. He delivered groceries on the train to Nordegg in his youth, he loved to play and coach baseball and basketball, grew an amazing garden and played a mean card game of spite and malice.
There are so many stories of many Albertans who shaped and built our communities and their stories of triumph, pain and the challenges they faced literally built our country through sacrifice, community and left a legacy we can remember with pride. I only hope that one day, our kids of today can say the same.
What historical family story are you grateful for?
